Currently in Phoenix

We had a safe trip from Lo de Marcos to the Mexican/US border at Nogales. We left Lo de Marcos on the morning of Sunday, March 18th and arrived in the Tucson area on Wednesday, March 21st.

Sunday we stayed in Mazatlan at San Fernando RV Park and went to dinner at Fat Fish (rib specialty place!), followed by a relaxing time in the pool and hot tub afterwards.
Monday night we stayed at a Pemex truck stop south of Los Mochis.  You stay free but tip the guard to watch over you in the locked compound.  It was surprisingly quiet considering we were right on the highway! (100% better than our experience at the Pemex near San Louis Potosi 2 years ago)
Tuesday night we stayed in San Carlos at Totonaka and met up with other friends who had left Lo de Marcos the week before us for dinner at the marina.
Wednesday we crossed the border at Nogales with no issues.
We stayed 2 nights for free at the Desert Diamond Casino south of Tucson while we shopped around Green Valley and Tucson.
Friday we moved here to the Phoenix area.  We are staying at the Arizona Cowboy RV Park in Mesa.  After a day spent visiting around Phoenix (population 4 million) we relaxed at a community campfire after dinner this evening.
Tomorrow we head back to Tucson.

Visitors from Victoria BC

Our niece Jenna and her boyfriend Nick booked a one week vacation at an all-inclusive resort just 15 minutes north of us in the town of Rincon de Guayabitos.  We enjoyed taking them to a few spots in the area.

On Saturday Mar 10th the group of us went to the Amigos Fiesta in La Penita.  It was a charity event to raise money for  local projects such as plastic recycling.  The Fiesta gave Jenna and Nick a chance to try local food such as tortas, ceviche, flautas, tostados, beef tacos.  Entertainment included Flamenco dancers, Belling dancers, folkloric dancers as well as the rock 'n roll group the Perez Brothers.  Unfortunately, Bev forgot her camera so we'll have to wait for the photos taken by Jenna and Nick

After the fiesta, we watched the parade of  Volkswagen's from their annual club meet  in Rincon de Guayabitos.

Thursday, we enjoyed the morning at the traveling market in La Penita, followed by lunch of delicious shrimp tacos at Hindes y Jaime's.  That afternoon the 4 of us spent at the beach and watched whales breaching off shore.  The whales put on quite a show for about 20 minutes!  A perfect ending for Jenna and Nick's vacation!

Last chance for Jenna and Nick to catch some rays in Lo de Marcos

Leaving Lo de Marcos

Sad to say we are leaving Lo de Marcos tomorrow morning (Mar 18th).  We will be traveling with the 2 other couples have stayed at Savage RV Park with us this winter.  We plan to stop overnight at Mazatlan, Los Mochis, and San Carlos before we cross into Arizona at Nogales.

We've had a wonderful time here.  The weather and water temperatures have been ideal.  Our utility costs have been low.  Total propane bill for 4 months to run stove, fridge, barbeque and water heater was $101.  Our electric bill for that time period was $94.

La Tovara and San Blas

Lovely photo of egret and reflection.

The mangroves create a tunnel over the channel.

On Monday, February 27th we visited La Tovara National Park to take a jungle river tour. The park is located just south of the town of San Blas, Nayarit which is about a 2 hour drive north of Lo de Marcos.  Our group of 8 arrived about 10 am and were assigned a boat with a very good guide who spent about 4 hours with us traveling the river.  He showed us over 33 varieties of birds as well as turtles and crocodiles.  He stopped along the way to allow us to take as many photos as we wished. The boat and guide cost us $140 pesos each (just over $10 CAD). We also stopped at the Crocodile Sanctuary during our trip where we made a donation of $10 pesos each (Less than $1 CAD),  The cages at the sanctuary are in the process of being rebuilt.  There were many large crocodiles in the sanctuary as well as a jaguar, peccaries, hawks, deer and geese.

We also stopped for lunch during our tour of the river.  The food at the little cafe was excellent.  We enjoyed cheese quesadillas, shrimp quesadillas and creamy shrimp soup. All were delicious.  The water in the area was spring fed with an area fenced off to allow swimming free of any danger of crocodiles but unfortunately none of us had brought our bathing suits!

After the river tour, headed to the town of San Blas to view the old fort and the very old church.
