Departure day for the second leg of our journey. We are able to hit the road about 9:30 on our way to Lexington Kentucky, with one planned stop in between to Fryes Electronics in Indianapolis. The countryside is pretty much flat and the road south (421) to meet up with I65 is straight as an arrow. The weather is cool and partly sunny.

If you have never heard of Fryes, you gotta believe this place is something else. Think of a Home Depot of electronic toys…computers, software, washers, dryers, printers, GPS, TVs, you name it. Immense. We stop in to buy Microsoft Streets and Trips 2010 version for the lowest price in the land, at $39, but come away with the version with a USB GPS included at $69, plus a headset to use while we are using Skype, and cheap small DVD player. Now we have Bluetooth, serial and USB GPS’s. As long as the software stays working we shouldn’t get lost

On our way along the highway we spot four Huey helicopters flying in loose formation at the Indiana National Guard base near Shelbyville (east of Indianapolis). The road is getting more hilly as we approach Kentucky but the RV pulls without much effort.

We make our next stop for fuel at the Flying J and fill up at $2.58 per gallon.

We spend the night at the Kentucky Horse Farm, just on the north side of Lexington. What a great spot, with rolling farmland, all fenced in white boarding, and a really nice campground at $19.50 per night with electrical hookup only (water is off for the winter season). We passed on the Wi-Fi offering of $4.95 for 2 hours or $14.95 per day. What a rip! The washroom and shower facilities were outstanding.

The night got cold, dropping down into the low forties F., so we ran the furnace in the bedroom. Camping is great when you’ve got the right equipment.
